Description

Hi my name is Devon. After recently reading the groundbreaking national bestseller book Seven Fallen Feathers Racism Death and Hard Truths in a Northern City about systemic racism, education, the failure of the policing and justice systems, and Indigenous rights by Tanya Talaga, I was moved to do what I can to shed light on the issue of racism that many of us Canadians ignore or simply don’t understand.

It’s time these injustices come into the spotlight, so we as a nation look at ourselves and ask some hard questions like “Why are we continuing to let this happen in Canada, a land that is ‘glorious and free’?”

I lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario for three years and saw first hand how these people groups are not being respected and valued for who they are. I wrote a special song during those years that looks at the pain these people have to carry. I am now finishing it in a recording studio in Zürich, Switzerland, close to where I now reside. Distance doesn’t change what I still feel in my heart for my Indigenous friends in Canada. Racism stills exists, but it doesn’t have too. Every person and people group is equal in the eyes of God and should be in our minds too.

Your financial support will enable me to produce and widely circulate a song and a music video that will put a spotlight on this sadly enough, still current issue in Canada and around the world. I have a vision for this song and it is going to happen. But when we, as many individuals, come together, we can make this a song to change the social landscape of Canada. How does that sound for 2021?  We need to make Canada a nation of equality. That is where we should be today in the ‘true north strong and free’.

Your support means the world to me. Whether you give $1 or $1000, the main thing is that we stand together on this issue. Please read the above mentioned book, if you want to have your eyes opened on this subject. Thank you for reading my message. You are precious and I appreciate you. Be blessed.

Hurts on the Inside

She stands alone
Standing still in time
She meets my gaze
It‘s a look I‘ve seen before
The noise fades
I pause and double-take
A shadow passes over and she turns away
The mask is in place
Hiding what her eyes betrayed

Her silence cries
Cries to the outside
Her silence hurts
Hurts on the inside

She stands alone
Long into the night
Silhouette still
As life is passing by
Can it be that God is in this place?
He never turns his face though she fades away
If we could see her tears would we do more than pray for change?

Her silence cries
Cries to the outside
Her silence hurts
Hurts on the inside

I see her pain
The hurt she carries
It weighs her down
Heavy on her shoulders.

Her silence cries
Cries to the outside
Her silence hurts
Hurts on the inside
